What I eat in a week #2
Week 2 here we go! I personally love documenting and taking pictures of what I eat, but honestly, it may get repetitive very quickly for lots of people. You’ll see lots of repeats with my breakfast and go-to dinners, but I’ll expand on this in a bit.
Breakfast
Breakfast is so fundamental to me as it’s one of the quietest times during the day and I get to let me thoughts go wild. Yes, my breakfasts look plain and very much the same. Yogurt with peanut butter protein bites and some sort of extra protein for most days. It’s quick, simple and I still love the taste after eating this combo for a few consecutive weeks. Obviously, not everyone can appreciate instant chicken breast like me or they might feel extra bloated after such a high-protein diet, but I would still encourage eating some sort of protein to start your day as it makes you feel so much more satiated.
Lunch
For most days, there’s a long time gap between when I have breakfast and when I have lunch. So during lunches, I try to have bigger portions surrounding lots of protein once again. To reiterate, not everyone can enjoy the taste of chicken - especially chicken breast - to the extent that I do, and that’s completely fine. Most of the time I don’t have a main carbohydrate source during lunches because I know I’m hungry by midday, and wouldn’t want to gorge down lots of carbs which set up the rest of my afternoon poorly. Sometimes when I have too many carbs during lunch when I’m intuitively eating, I do get sleepy towards the end of the school day.
When I eat in school, it isn’t always possible to eat healthily because the daily menu items may consist of braised beef or curry, which I seldomly eat. Therefore, I utilize the wonderful salad bar with chicken, red kidney beans and eggs which are all whole foods densely packed with protein and fiber.
Dinner + snack
Can you tell dinner is the meal I have the most fun with?! It’s probably not a healthy habit to stuff myself towards the end of each day, but that’s how I like to treat myself after a long of studying and extracurriculars. A little more carb is incorporated into my dinners and my go-to complex carb source is all kinds of potatoes and sweet potatoes; I love their soft and slightly mushy texture whilst being extremely filling. Of course, I can’t diverge from eating lots of veggies and meat as well!
As if my dinner wasn’t filling enough, I also love indulging in some kind of sweet treat before getting ready for bed. To keep in somewhat healthy, I’ve been obsessed with all kinds of protein bars! If I ever build up a large enough collection, I’ll definitely do a mass protein bar review for you all. Yes, by the end of the day I am stuffed, and I’m aware it’s probably a lot for my stomach to handle, but I definitely try to space out the eating period as well as my eating speed, so I will only eat until 75-85% full.
Indulgences
My sources of happiness… On this week’s indulgence menu we have fries, Cantonese grass jelly with red bean and chewy mochi, and chocolate crêpe cake! Hong Kong is truly (in my opinion), one of the food capitals of the world and I get to enjoy anything I want. Although these look like a lot of food, I certainly did not finish everything myself. Every time I want to eat good food, I make sure to share it with people I love. It obviously wasn’t possible to eat four crêpe cakes, but rather, I took a few bites and shared it with my mom.
Another tip I found extremely powerful to control my portions is to pair indulgent foods on top of my normal meals. For example, I had the fries along with my normal dinner, like a chicken salad as shown in the dinner section. Likewise, I had the dessert with my friends after having lots of veggies and protein during our hotpot dinner. I always find dividing and conquering good food with friends can 10x the experience because not only are we all gushing over some delicious dish, but we exchange laughter, gossip and our ratings on dishes that amalgamates to something memorable.
Anyway, I hope you have learned something this week or found an inspiration for your next meal. I look forward to sharing more thoughts next week!
Thanks for reading, and see you all in a bit.
